Thanks to everyone who came out and played. Thanks for braving the chilly March morning to play. The 38 degrees with 25 mile an hour winds was crazy, but we stuck it out. Thanks to the 22 golfers who attended our first annual golf tournament. And thanks so much to the volunteers and committee members who worked tirelessly to pull the tournament together. We couldn't have done it without you.

I'm pleased to announce that together we raised nearly $800. That is enough to offer another scholarship to an incoming OU freshman! That is fantastic!

Join us for the 1st Annual OU Club of Collin County March Madness Golf Tourney

Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Plantation Resort Golf Club

All proceeds will benefit the OU Club of Collin County scholarship fund. In addition to the fun filled day on the golf course, we will provide lunch, a hole in one and long drive contest and exciting door prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the members of the first and second place teams, closest to the pin, and long drive winners!

Each year, we award two scholarships to deserving high school seniors from Collin County that are bound for OU. Each $1,000 scholarship will help the incoming freshman pay for necessary, academic tools to help their first year be a bit less of a financial burden. We award this scholarship based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, leadership, and articulation of goals and plans. Our past awardees have gone on to study subjects like engineering, journalism, fashion design and marketing.

Registration: $65 per player or $260 per team. Mulligan’s will be available for purchase the day of the tournament. Price includes green fees, cart, GPS and lunch.

OU to Host National Amateur Golf Championship 2009

OU’s Jimmie Austin Golf Course will play host to the 2009 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, scheduled for July 13 through 18 of next year.

The U.S. Amateur Public Links is open to amateur golfers who are bona fide public course players and hold a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 8.4. The tournament is one of 13 national championships conducted by the USGA, 10 of which are held solely for amateur players.

The course will undergo a series of improvements before the tournament begins, according to Rodney Young, director of golf at Jimmie Austin.

“Standard adjustments to fairway cuts will be made,” Young said. “We will also be perfecting bunker edges while also continuing maintenance on the greens.”
